The Embassy of Argentina, Lucerne Building Christ Church, Barbados

The Opening of the Exhibition ‘Holding Space’ was held on the 29th of May 2023 as a celebration of Argentina National Day (9 de Julio – Día de la Independencia). It featured the works of several Barbadian artists in Painting, Sculpture and Photography. The Opening of the event was by invitation only and was attended by not only the participating artists but also guests specially invited by the Embassy of Argentina, including foreign diplomats and varying Barbadian political figures.

The ambassador to Barbados, Ciro Luciano Ciliberto Infante gave a warming and educational speech delving into the history behind the Argentina National Day for those unfamiliar with its origin. The event continued with a presentation of Argentinian wine and beef, a recent import to the island, with the Ambassador joining the chefs who produced the evening’s hors d’oeuvres.

There was much interaction between the artists and invitees surrounding the work on display. Ultimately the small but intimate opening was warmly received, and the conversations sparked led to the sale of more than a few pieces on display. The Exhibition closed on July 7th 2023.
